You Matter, Yes You Do

Blue hair,

no teeth

sorting through her goodwill bag

green and blue polished nails,

30 random bracelets,

Star Wars shirt,

pow pow cartoon pants,

empty beer bottles,

bear socks

blue and orange tennis shoes untied,

through the window she points to a homeless camp and

tells me that’s her home,

trash, graffiti,

city in clouds

slow drizzle,

Portland rain.

She is you and I

on a road we didn’t take,

a choice we made or didn’t

in fate’s murky lake.

Her message was quite simple.

I’m a human first, like you.

My message was quite heartfelt,

You matter, yes you do.
