“From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere.” ˜Dr. Seuss, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
“Mirth is God’s medicine. Everybody ought to bathe in it. ” ˜Henry Ward Beecher
“So many tangles in life are ultimately hopeless that we have no appropriate sword other than laughter.” ~Gordon W. Allport
“What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” ~Yiddish Proverb
Laughter is contagious. It fills our bodies with endorphins and is said to boost our immune systems as it relaxes our muscles and fills our hearts with increased blood flow, triggering a sort of medicinal dance throughout our bodies. You can even attend Laughter Therapy now!
I don’t know about you, but for me, one good laugh can totally revamp the memory of a day that could have been labeled “not worth your feet hitting the floor for”. Funny is everywhere! You don’t even have to turn on the TV; although I could easily recommend quite a few laughter rx stores there. But try this next time you’re out of your house; start by breathing deeply, from way down in your belly, tell yourself you’re going to be amused, open your eyes wide , and just take a good look around.
There’s an intersection in my town that I travel through on a fairly regular basis. A produce store on the corner employs a man to hold a large sign advertising “sweet fresh fruit and veggies” with a big arrow designating the way. Not funny in the least on it’s own, but the wiry, animated man with the sign is “doing funny” right and earning every single penny he’s paid. You’d think he was a world champion Charades player from the performance he puts on and the moves he busts on that corner! His feet are tapping, his arms are flailing about, and he’s pantomiming the act of enjoying delicious fruits of the earth with a silent jingle that gets me chuckling every time! I smile with gratitude for the joy he brings me, without him ever even being aware of how he’s touched my life.
God’s medicine, a sword to cut through life’s seemingly utterly hopeless tangles, soap for the soul; laughter is all of these and more.
I sincerely hope so.
And if not, find it! It does a body, mind, and soul good!
Peace and Love
